The Moodle student dashboard can be difficult to navigate, so I created a conceptual redesign to explore how the interface could better support students in managing tasks like watching lectures, accessing readings, and completing quizzes. The goal was to design a simpler, more intuitive experience that keeps the focus on learning rather than navigation.

Challenge

The dashboard showed everything, but made it hard to find anything Students needed quicker access to key learning tasks

Moodle’s student dashboard presented a wide range of content including courses, deadlines, messages, and notifications, but lacked a clear visual hierarchy. Key actions like resuming a lecture or completing a quiz were buried among less relevant items, making it harder for students to focus, stay organized, and navigate under pressure.

Solution

I designed a simplified, student-focused dashboard experience that reduces friction and supports consistent progress. The redesign brings structure to the content, highlights key actions, and removes distractions that previously got in the way of learning.

From layout to interaction, every element was reconsidered to help students move more efficiently through their courses—whether that meant resuming a lecture, accessing materials, or completing a quiz. The new interface balances clarity and function, making the learning experience feel lighter, faster, and more intuitive.

Results

The redesigned dashboard offers a more intentional and focused student experience. While conceptual, the outcome reflects real needs and delivers meaningful UX improvements across key touchpoints:

1. Improved task visibility

Core actions like resuming lectures or completing quizzes are now surfaced instantly on login.

2. Simplified navigation

Fewer clicks and clearer pathways reduce friction and help students stay on track.

3. Cleaner, calmer interface

Visual hierarchy and space make the dashboard easier to scan, especially under time pressure.

4. Student-first structure

The layout reflects how students actually study, one step at a time, with minimal distractions.
